Sandfield Rerserve, Playspace

ZLA was engaged by Frankston City Council to develop a nature based design for a regional $1.3m playspace upgrade. The design provides a diverse range of sensory and imaginative play opportunities, including water and sand play elements. The former Carrum Carrum Swamp which was once home to a broad range of flora and fauna has been referenced with the play design incorporating local animal timber sculptures and artwork stenciled into paving including water birds, eels, frogs and dragonflys. The design showcases water sensitive urban design, collecting storm-water from hard surfaces including a picnic shelter and making this visible in the form of a swale/dry creek bed. The design also provides a range of play equipment selected for children of all abilities.
